The Dune Smart series have been end of life since November last year. Dune only now have 4 offerings (base 3d, TV-303, connect, and TV-102) and havent changed the way they do things in terms of firmware.

Firmware updates have been bug fixes predominately and havent really added any extra functionality. Dune have been very good products, we've been the main UK distributor for them in the UK for the last 4 years and using 3rd part metadata they look fantastic - we sell many in integrated systems based on a 3rd party product we use called my movies. Yadis, and zappiti are two other metadata producers for dune.

Zappiti have their own range now based on the dune Base 3d and TV-303D with custom zappiti firmware added at the Dune factory. My movies offers limited customization so if that came with mcm then you would probably jump to the top. Look on which is where a lot of work has been done on customising dune so you can get a feel for the work involved if you went ahead.
